Apple Continuity is a brilliant idea!
Late last year I made the final move to be 100% user of Apple products…I’ve been using a Macbook Pro for a few years but still used Android for my phones and for my tablet. In October my Google Nexus 5 screen started crashing and despite the best efforts of LG in Lagos, and the high street phone repairman in Surrey UK, no repairs worked. I gave up and bought an iPhone 6s. It is the most beautifully designed phone I’ve ever had, and to my surprise pretty much all the apps I loved on Android, including Googles apps work great on IOS. Then a month later my Google Nexus 9 tablet also stopped turning on. No fix for that yet — also no replacement yet (hint to anyone wondering of a gift to buy me — an iPad mini4 would be great). To round up the year I got an awesome Christmas gift of an Apple Watch — I’m still trying to figure the real utility of this watch — so far monitoring my sleep pattern is the top usage, aside from telling the time.
One of the best features of using Apple devices is what they call “continuity” The idea is simple and brilliant! If you start using an app on your phone you can continue on your laptop…Say you are browsing a site on your i-phone you can move over to your laptop and the website is open already. This works only with Apple products. I just got a phone call and it rang on my laptop as well as my i-watch (a bit much). I could answer it on any of the three devices — watch, laptop, or phone. I used the laptop as I was already on the laptop. I can also send text messages straight from my laptop or watch. The text messaging feature doesn’t work as great for me — I think its an Airtel issue…
Continuity is definitely solving a developed world problem. We have many devices to stay connected but we want unity amongst all the various devices or mediums (pun intended). Nothing wrong with that. I love it!
