One of my goals in 2016 was to run 2 half marathons. I accomplished that by running a half distance in Lagos with my running club and then the Vienna City Marathon (which also had a half marathon). My best time came in Vienna at 2hrs 19mins — 28 mins better than my previous proper half marathon race!

This year I’ve set a goal to run 26.219 miles in a race. My first marathon. I’ve chosen to run the Paris Marathon on April 9th.

I am very excited about the race, and the journey to Paris — the training. I’m using a Nike Running Club Coach program to prepare for the race and I’ve gone back to the gym. I have a trainer, Jide, helping me with strength training twice a week. I also have my wife (who is also running Paris) and my running club — the Lagos Road Warriors to train with and to inspire me.

It’s going to be an intense 3 months of training. It’s going to be tough BUT it’s going to fun! I am thinking I will dedicate each mile to someone, or a group of people. Not sure yet. I need to figure that out…

Today was my 3rd day training with Jide and it was no joke. I did 6 different exercises for 6 sets. Each set was 6 reps of each exercise and I had to do it better each time! I already feel like I’m getting stronger though…

I’m going to attempt to blog about my training. It’s going to be all about discipline — that is how I’ll crush 26.219 miles.

Wish me luck!! #tayosroadtoparis
